Initially, all 16 temporary railway platforms, intended for operation over several years, were planned to be built by the end of last year. The total cost of the project was estimated at around 1 million euros, which LDz intended to allocate from its own budget. Currently, work has been completed at most stations (it has become much more convenient for passengers to board and disembark trains in Torņakalns, Zasulauks, at the 'Depo' and 'Vagonu parks' stations, in Jāņavārti, Daugmale, Darzini, Salaspils, Saulkalne, Kaibale, Kudre, Cēne, and Valmiera), however, as reported by LDz to Latvian Radio, the final implementation of the project will be delayed by at least another year and a half. Moreover, the project itself will significantly increase in price. According to company representatives, expenses have risen by another 600,000 euros over the past year, excluding Inčupe. If the construction of a new temporary platform at the White Dune is also taken into account, the total cost of the project may reach 1.7 million euros, which is approximately 70% more than the initial estimate. LDz's Director of Technical Operations, Egils Feldmanis, stated to LSM that the reasons for such delays and cost increases were the volumes of timber required, which were quite substantial, as well as the timelines for its delivery. It is noteworthy that, according to former Minister of Communications Anrijs Matiss, construction materials have not risen in price as significantly as LDz claims, and therefore such a substantial increase in the project's cost, in his opinion, is not justified. However, as noted by Latvian Radio, the Ministry of Communications does not currently consider it necessary to intervene in the situation, despite the rising costs and postponed deadlines.
