According to a press release circulated today, "SIA Rīgas nami is starting the next phase of the development project for the Riga Central Market. By spring 2027, the former Vegetable Pavilion will be adapted for the sale of meat products, with a provision for temporary accommodation of fish traders during the restoration of the Fish Pavilion. This is an important step in the long-term development of the Riga Central Market, which will allow for the sequential restoration of historical pavilions while ensuring the continuous operation of the market during construction work. The development concept for the Riga Central Market envisions the gradual restoration of historical pavilions, systematically preparing new trading spaces, relocating traders, and only then beginning the reconstruction of the future pavilion. At the same time, the restoration of the Dairy Pavilion continues, where a modern food pavilion is planned to be created after the completion of the work. "This phase is not just a reconstruction of a separate pavilion, but the next important step in the development of the Riga Central Market. Our goal is to restore the historical pavilions by the centenary of the Riga Central Market in 2030, preserving their unique character while simultaneously creating a modern, safe, and convenient environment for traders and visitors. This goal can only be achieved gradually - step by step, while maintaining the market's operation throughout the changes. We understand that the coming years will require some patience from both traders and buyers," said Oļģars Vālers, Chairman of the Board of SIA Rīgas nami. To adapt the pavilion, trading will be halted on August 1, and by mid-August, traders of industrial goods will be relocated to other trading places in the Riga Central Market. Each tenant is offered alternative solutions to ensure the continuity of business operations as much as possible. To bring the pavilion in line with the requirements for the sale of meat and fish products, renovations of floors and engineering communications are planned, as well as the construction of refrigeration chambers and cooling systems. The total costs for the work are estimated at around 1.9 million euros. During the changes, the Riga Central Market will continue to operate, offering customers a wide range of products from local farmers, home producers, and other traders.
