France is tightening border control with Spain due to the migration crisis. The head of the French Ministry of the Interior, Laurent Nunez, wrote on social media platform X that he "has instructed to immediately strengthen control at the Spanish border" after thousands of migrants crossed from Morocco into the Spanish exclave of Ceuta in North Africa. The minister also stated that he is in contact with his Spanish counterpart regarding this issue. Earlier, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced that Rome is considering suspending the Schengen Agreement with Madrid. According to the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, approximately 49,000 migrants arrived in Ceuta in the last 24 hours, about 7,000 of whom are minors, as reported by Deutsche Welle. The influx of migrants may have been influenced by a decision from the Spanish Supreme Court made earlier this month, which stated that migrants intercepted at sea while attempting to reach Ceuta or Melilla cannot be immediately expelled in a simplified manner. Spanish authorities have stated that they will try to expel individuals who have illegally crossed the border as soon as possible, despite this court ruling.
