Interior Minister Jānis Dombrava (National Alliance) announced in a very brief note on his social media channels on Friday evening, July 31st, that the Latvian-Belarusian border had been closed due to "technical reasons" just a day after he advised Latvian residents to cancel any plans to travel to Belarus and return home if possible.
While travel to aggressor state Belarus has long been discouraged – for a variety of practical and ethical reasons – it is not illegal to do so.
