Confectioneries can submit their applications to participate in the competition until August 11, while home bakers can do so until August 12. All pastries submitted for the competition will be evaluated by a professional jury, which will determine the best version of 'Vecrīga'. The final of the competition will take place at the Birthday Restaurant of Riga, located near the Latvian National Opera and Ballet. On August 14, the jury will assess the products from Riga's confectioneries, and on August 15, the desserts presented by home bakers. The history of the 'Vecrīga' pastry is closely linked to Riga and its confectionery traditions. According to one version, the recipe for the pastry named 'Vecrīga' was developed by confectioner Ilmars Uldis Cirulis (1927–1985) as his qualification work in collaboration with confectioner Wilhelm Pirags (1907–1986). Both master confectioners also worked at the famous Riga café 'Ch. Jürgenson–Otto Schwarz'.
