Latvian Radio, together with Sandris Bēčs, chairman of the board of the Durbes grauds farmers’ co-operative, takes a short ride on a combine harvester to understand just how varied the situation is, even in a small grain field. In many places, the grain didn’t overwinter well, he explains; they’ve had to resow, and there’s no shortage of weeds either.

“Mostly average, but there’s also some very good – others say it’s excellent – it depends on the region,” says Bēča.
