Western Europe experienced the hottest June and July since instrumental records began. According to the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), the average temperature for the two summer months reached 21.62 degrees. This is 2.79 degrees above the average calculated for the period 1991–2020, highlighting the scale of the current anomaly. However, the record heat did not affect the entire continent. In Eastern Europe and Scandinavia, temperatures remained significantly lower, so overall in Europe, July ranked only 11th among the warmest months in recorded history. The average temperature on the continent was 20.49 degrees. This means that the current summer has been extremely heterogeneous: while western countries suffered from prolonged heatwaves, the eastern part of Europe experienced more moderate weather. Globally, July 2026 also ranked among the warmest in recorded history. According to Copernicus, its average temperature was around 16.9 degrees, making it the second hottest July after 2024. The absolute record still belongs to July 2023, when the average global temperature reached 16.95 degrees. Although the global record was not broken, the temperature in July 2026 was 1.47 degrees above the pre-industrial average. This figure remains one of the key indicators of long-term climate warming. New data from Copernicus shows that extreme temperature events continue to affect different regions of the world, although their intensity can vary significantly even within Europe.
