Last year, potatoes were grown on 7,600 hectares in Latvia; this year, the area under cultivation has fallen to 7,200 hectares. Last year’s potato harvest was adversely affected by a rainy summer; this year’s harvest could be better, but this will only be known for certain once the potatoes have been harvested. Potato prices are lower this year – early potatoes were selling for one euro per kilogram, but larger quantities are being bought at 16 cents per kilogram.
