In France, the situation with water supply is rapidly deteriorating amid the ongoing abnormal heat. According to Minister of Ecological Transition Barbara Pompili, disruptions in drinking water have already affected more than 40,000 people, as reported by Entrevue. At the same time, the national meteorological service Météo-France has declared an orange alert level due to the heat in 78 departments across the country. High temperatures are placing additional strain on water resources, which are already in critical condition in several regions. In this regard, the minister has instructed prefects to promptly impose restrictions on water use where necessary. Special attention will be paid to monitoring compliance with these measures by both residents and businesses. According to the head of the department, during previous drought periods, monitoring of compliance with restrictions was often insufficient, so now government services will more closely oversee their implementation. The scale of the weather warning indicates that the heat has affected almost the entire country. Authorities are concerned that the combination of extremely high temperatures and lack of precipitation in the coming days will further worsen the condition of rivers, reservoirs, and groundwater. French authorities are urging the population to conserve water, warning that if the heat persists, restrictions may be expanded and the water supply situation could become even more strained.
