As reported, early on Friday, residents of Augšdaugava, Preiļi, Rēzekne, Balvi, and Alūksne municipalities were warned about a threat in the airspace. The National Armed Forces (NAF) reported that fighters involved in the NATO Baltic states airspace patrol mission were scrambled. It was reported that earlier in the summer, residents of Latgale and Vidzeme received multiple warnings on their mobile phones about a potential threat to the airspace. Additionally, several drones fell on Latvian territory and exploded. The mentioned incidents involving drones were related to their approach to or violation of Latvian airspace, which were allegedly involved in the Russia-Ukraine war. In early August, the portal 15min.lt reported that Lithuanian military intelligence had information that Russia was considering attacks on the critical infrastructure of the Baltic states using Ukrainian drones.
