In all official swimming areas in Riga, except for the seaside beaches, the water temperature has risen to at least +20 degrees. This is evidenced by data summarized by the Riga Municipal Police. The warmest water is currently in Lake Babeltitis, the Bolderāja quarry, and in the Daugava River near Kipsala. Here, the water has warmed up to +21 degrees. A bit cooler — around +20 degrees — is in Lake Kisezers, as well as in the Daugava River near Lucavsala and Rumbula. The water temperature on the coast of the Gulf of Riga is noticeably different. At the beaches of Vecāki, Vakarbuļļi, and Daugavgrīva, it is about +17 degrees. The difference is explained by the fact that seawater warms up more slowly than water in lakes, quarries, and rivers. Therefore, on hot days, it is usually the inland water bodies that become the most comfortable for swimming. There are a total of nine official swimming areas in Riga: Vakarbuļļi, Daugavgrīva, Vecāki, Babeltitis, Lucavsala, the bay of Lucavsala, Rumbula, Kipsala, and the Bolderāja quarry. For vacationers, there is another good piece of news: according to recent analyses, the water quality in all official swimming areas meets sanitary requirements. This means that swimming in them is currently safe and permitted. In the coming days, if warm weather persists, the water temperature may rise even higher, especially in small lakes and quarries.
