Next Monday, Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs will hold a coalition council meeting, during which, among other things, the issue of ensuring the parliament's approval of the Cabinet's decision on measures to stabilize airBaltic, made on Friday, August 14, will be discussed. It is worth noting that this involves extending the repayment period of the remaining part of the loan until August 31 and granting the government the right to purchase airBaltic bonds for up to 30 million euros. Due to the difficult situation at airBaltic, further delays are not possible, and the Saeima needs to make a decision at an extraordinary meeting on August 20. Rumor has it that many deputies from the ruling coalition - primarily from the National Alliance and the Union of Greens and Farmers - do not want to take risks before the elections and threaten to refuse to participate in this vote. If the opposition also withdraws, which is likely, then Kulbergs and his team will not have an easy time. Therefore, on Monday, Kulbergs will try to "gauge" the mood of his partners. It is likely that at the meeting, the ruling party will also return to the issue of the troubled Rail Baltica project - there is still little clarity on this matter. It cannot be ruled out that the ruling party will also revisit important amendments to the Immigration Law before the Saeima's approval of this document.
