Of the convicted, 41% were serving their sentence for the first time, 14% for the second time, and 11% for the third time. Most of the convicted were aged between 30 and 50 years. Among them, 29% were aged 30 to 40 years, and 39% were aged 40 to 50 years. In 30% of cases, the sentenced individuals in custody received a term of five to ten years. In 19% of cases, the term was from ten to 20 years, and in 17% it was from one to three years. Life imprisonment was served by 2.67% of the convicted. Of the 3,588 individuals in custody last year, 853 were arrested, and 2,735 were convicted. In 2024, the number of prisoners was 3,505, including 1,001 arrested and 2,504 convicted. The number of juvenile prisoners decreased more than twofold over the year — from 31 individuals in 2024 to 14 in 2025. Among them, three were arrested, and 11 were convicted. At the end of the year, 2,531 prisoners were in closed prisons, 193 in open prison sections, 11 in a juvenile correctional facility, and 853 in pre-trial detention centers. Of the total number of prisoners, 3,400 were citizens of Latvia, and 188 were foreigners. Among the prisoners, there were 3,353 men and 235 women. Last year, 2,407 individuals were released from places of detention. Six were released due to severe illness, 41 conditionally early with electronic monitoring, 88 conditionally early, and 2,272 after serving their full sentence. The highest number of prisoners last year was in Daugavgrīva Prison — 1,143 individuals, and in Riga Central Prison — 945. There were 324 prisoners in Valmiera Prison, 300 in the former Jelgava Prison, 262 in Olaine Prison, 252 in Jēkabpils Prison, 181 in Ilguciems Prison, and 167 in the old Liepāja Prison. There were 14 prisoners in the Cēsis juvenile correctional facility.
