The light show used lasers, projectors, fountains, smoke machines, as well as stage pyrotechnics. The pyrotechnics used did not shoot high into the sky and did not create as much noise as regular fireworks. Together with the lasers and other light effects, it helped fill the vast space of the Daugava, the mayor's advisor explained, emphasizing that the city does not use classic fireworks and will not use them in the future. Riga's Vice Mayor Edwards Ratnieks also told the LETA agency that the light show with elements of fireworks should be viewed positively. "It is very good that the element of fireworks is returning to official city events, especially on such a significant day for the city — the 825th birthday," said the vice mayor.
