This is being done to strengthen competitiveness, improve the efficiency of supplying the country with medicines, and simultaneously enhance the resilience of Latvia's critically important healthcare infrastructure. The new center, which is already actively under construction, will increase the efficiency of daily medicine deliveries, strengthen the availability of medications throughout Latvia, and bolster the reliability of supplies in times of crises and emergencies. Recently, a roof-raising ceremony (a traditional event marking the completion of the building's framework) took place. This mega-logistics modern project will become one of the largest private investment projects in the field of critically important pharmaceutical supply infrastructure in Latvia's history. The completion of the work is scheduled for spring 2027. Once operational, the facility will significantly enhance the security of medicine supplies, the resilience of the system, and the continuity of providing the residents of Latvia with essential medications. "The state cannot be sustainable and prosperous without strong companies that invest in development and grow. The security of Latvia is determined not only by its defense capabilities but also by the resilience of its critically important infrastructure and the readiness of entrepreneurs to provide society with vital services under any circumstances. The availability of medicines and medical products is one such priority. Therefore, such significant investments in modern pharmaceutical supply infrastructure, made by Latvian entrepreneurs, deserve high praise. This once again confirms that Latvian companies are ready to take responsibility not only for the development of their own business but also for the state, investing in its security and competitiveness in the long term," emphasized Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs at the roof-raising ceremony. ## Over 6 million euros for automation and robotization Of the total investment amount of 20 million euros, more than 6 million will be directed towards modern automation and robotization technologies that will equip the logistics center covering 13,800 square meters. The implementation of robotics and artificial intelligence will significantly enhance the efficiency of processes, ensure particularly high accuracy in selection and order fulfillment, and greatly accelerate order processing. As a result, the necessary infrastructure will be created for effective and uninterrupted supply of medicines and medical products, including in emergencies. Andris Kužņieks, Head of the European Commission Representation in Latvia, notes that the project aligns with the European Union's (EU) goals of strengthening the security of pharmaceutical supply chains. "By proposing the Critical Medicines Act and other initiatives, the EU has clearly defined the goal of enhancing Europe's ability to provide the population with critical medicines. This means developing the production of such medicines and their active pharmaceutical ingredients in Europe, creating more resilient supply chains, strengthening cooperation among EU member states, including in joint procurement, and reducing strategic dependence on third countries. The security of EU supply chains, the resilience of critically important infrastructure, and economic security in the current geopolitical conditions are a shared responsibility of the public and private sectors. Therefore, it is important to strengthen the security of medicine supplies, ensuring that patients across Latvia have continuous access to necessary medications. The new logistics center in Riga is a significant contribution from a Latvian company to strengthening the critically important infrastructure of the country's pharmaceutical supply system," stated Kužņieks. ## Supply volumes can be tripled if necessary Mantas Jurkus, Chairman of the Board of AS Recipe Plus, emphasizes that the company recognizes its role in Latvia's pharmaceutical supply system and in ensuring the resilience of the healthcare system. "Recognizing our role in Latvia's pharmaceutical supply system and the resilience of the healthcare system, we are developing not only the most modern automated logistics center for medicines in the Baltics but also the infrastructure that will strengthen the state's ability to ensure continuous availability of medications in the long term. After the project is completed, we will significantly expand our logistics capabilities, improve efficiency, accuracy, and traceability of processes, while simultaneously reducing dependence on manual labor. If necessary, we will be able to triple the volume of supplies of medicines and medical products, ensuring uninterrupted supply even in the event of a sharp increase in demand or disruptions in international supply chains," noted Jurkus. **Note:** AS Recipe Plus offers over 17,000 product items, including medicines, dietary supplements, medical products, cosmetics, and other pharmaceutical products.
