Construction of a new section of bicycle infrastructure has begun on November 11 Embankment in Riga. As a result, traffic and pedestrian restrictions will be in effect until September 30 on the section from the Stone Bridge to the Railway Bridge in the direction of the Railway Bridge. A separate bicycle lane approximately 1.1 kilometers long will be built here, completely separated from vehicle and pedestrian traffic. At the same time, the pedestrian infrastructure will also be updated. The new section will become part of a larger project — the cycling route "Center — Kengarags — Rumbula — Darzini." Once the work is completed, its total length from the Cable Bridge to the Darzini neighborhood will be about 14 kilometers. The project will be implemented in two phases. The first phase of work will take place on the section between the Stone and Railway Bridges. On the segment from the Cable Bridge to the Stone Bridge, a separate bicycle lane will not be built for now. Here, the movement of cyclists will be organized using a temporary traffic scheme and special markings. For motorists and pedestrians, this means that until the end of September, changes to the usual traffic scheme may occur in one of the busiest sections of the embankment. When planning trips through the city center, it is advisable to consider possible restrictions and choose a route in advance. After the project is completed, cyclists will be able to safely and uninterruptedly reach the Stone Bridge, Old Riga, the network of bicycle paths near the Central Market, as well as access the bicycle path along the General Radzins Embankment. A budget of 1.29 million euros has been allocated for the implementation of the project from the Riga budget. The construction work is expected to be completed within four months after it begins.
