In response to a question about equalizing pensions, Uzulnieks explained that the state's goal is not to equate the pensions of those with little work experience to the pensions of elderly people who have worked their entire lives and accumulated significant experience. On the contrary, the Ministry of Welfare wants to support people with long work experience more. The minister reminded that previously the right to an old-age pension with the minimum required insurance period could be obtained after 15 years of work, whereas from this year the minimum required period is 20 years. Thus, the pension system takes into account the accumulated work experience of a person. Uzulnieks pointed out that a higher indexation coefficient applies to people with long work experience, which is why their pension increase is greater. There is also greater support through an increase in the supplement for each year worked. The minister agreed with the opinion that people with long work experience should receive more support than those who have not officially worked and have not made social insurance contributions. He emphasized that in the pension system, the contributions made by a person to social insurance and the accumulated experience are of significant importance.
