At 7:00, the operation of 46 out of more than 150 AST substations was disrupted, five 330 kilovolt (kV) overhead power lines were damaged, and 44 lines with a voltage of 110 kV were affected. The operation of three 110 kV overhead lines has already been restored. The widespread damage to the power grid caused by the storm began on Saturday after 18:00 and continued until early Sunday morning. By 22:00 on Saturday, disruptions in the power transmission networks were recorded, affecting the power supply in the vicinity of Olaine and Jaunolaine, in the Jelgava, Kekava, and Madona regions, in Dobele and the Dobele region, in Livani and the Livani region, in the vicinity of Jekabpils, in the Augsdaugava and Aizkraukle regions, in the vicinity of Viesite, Ludza, Kraslava, in Zilupe, Dagda, Ilukste, and Subate. Power supply was also disrupted in Ugale and its surroundings in the Ventspils region. In Jaunpils and its surroundings in the Tukums and Dobele regions, the power supply was promptly restored. On Saturday after 22:00, the storm intensified, leading to even more extensive damage. Disruptions in the power networks were recorded, affecting the power supply in Salaspils and the Salaspils region, in Riga, Iecava, the Bauska region, in Kegums and its surroundings, in the vicinity of Baldone, in Ogre and the Ogre region, in the Aizkraukle region, in Vilana, Varaklani and their surroundings, in the Rezekne region, in Lubana, Preili and the Preili region, in Ieriki, Inčukalns, the Cesis and Sigulda regions, in Lielvarde, as well as in Livani. In the vicinity of Plavinas and Ergli, the power supply was promptly restored. According to AST, on Sunday, all available resources will be engaged to eliminate technological damages and restore power supply, and restoration work will be carried out in cooperation with ST. The work of the crews is affected by hazardous weather conditions. Access to power lines may be hindered by fallen trees due to the storm and flooded areas due to heavy rains. ST specialists are working to eliminate damages in close cooperation with AST employees. The damages in the distribution power grid are mainly caused by trees and branches falling on overhead lines, damaged poles, and other elements of the power networks. All possible resources of the company have been mobilized to eliminate the damages; however, considering the scale of the destruction, restoring power supply for some customers may take several days.
