Responsible services are currently working intensively to eliminate the consequences of the storm, and people are still urged not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary. As noted by the municipality, Riga experienced one of the strongest storms in recent decades on the night of Sunday, with wind speeds exceeding 30 meters per second. Due to fallen trees, public transport is not operating or is delayed in many areas, and thousands of households and businesses are without electricity. Teams from the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) and municipal institutions and enterprises are actively working to address the aftermath of the storm. Deputy Chair of the Riga City Council Edvards Ratnieks reported that by 9 AM, the municipality had received information about 301 incidents - 167 reports of broken trees and branches, 51 about flooding of roadways and other areas, and eight about non-functioning traffic lights. The SFRS in Riga received about 500 calls. As Ratnieks emphasized, the services are operating in an intensified mode, but addressing the aftermath will take a lot of time. "We urge Riga residents to work remotely on Monday, if possible. 6,000 households in Riga are disconnected from the power grid. We are still assessing all the consequences, as information from municipal institutions, enterprises, residents, and services continues to come in," said the vice-mayor. The municipal company "Rīgas satiksme" continues to work on restoring public transport services. Movement was disrupted on all tram routes, as well as on many trolleybus and bus routes during the evening and night. Work is currently ongoing to restore the contact network on the 1st tram route. Once this work is completed, restoration of the contact network on the 11th route will begin, where it is damaged over a length of about 200 meters. A decision will also be made regarding whether a joint concert by "Mesa" and "Gacho" can take place in Mežaparks in the evening, as there are many fallen trees in the vicinity of the stage, which are being identified and cordoned off by "Rīgas meži" staff. It is also still unclear whether tram services can be restored. The municipality promises to provide separate information on this by noon.
