On Monday evening, power outages still affected about **54,000 customers of Sadales tīkls**, the company reported to the LETA agency. Thus, on Monday, electricity was restored to approximately **33,000 customers**. Since Sunday morning, when the number of damages peaked, electricity has been restored to **223,000 customers — 80% of all consumers who were left without power at that time**. Currently, the most serious power outages are observed in the areas of Preili, Aizkraukle, Sigulda, Rezekne, Jekabpils, Ogre, Ludza, Bauska, Kraslava, Jelgava, Saulkrasti, and Cesis. Sadales tīkls acknowledges that due to the extensive damage caused by the storm, some customers, especially in areas with a lot of forests, will have to wait several days for power restoration. To date, **551 damages to the distribution power network** caused by the storm have been eliminated. **223 Sadales tīkls crews** are involved in the repair work, assisted by seven crews from Estonia. The company notes that the elements caused significant damage to both the transmission networks of the Augstsprieguma tīkls (AST) operator and the distribution networks. In order for Sadales tīkls to restore power in the medium voltage networks, it is first necessary to eliminate damages to the transmission lines. Therefore, some repair crews joined the restoration of transmission lines together with AST on Sunday. At the same time, Sadales tīkls crews are working on restoring voltage on all medium voltage lines, after which they sequentially eliminate damages in the low voltage networks. The company explains that this sequence allows for the fastest possible return of electricity to the largest number of customers. On Monday afternoon, about **150 kilometers of power lines** affected by the elements were surveyed using drones. Recall that on the evening of Saturday, August 22, and into the night of Sunday, Latvia was hit by the strongest summer storm in decades. In some places, wind speeds exceeded 30 meters per second. The elements caused extensive damage to both distribution and transmission power networks, resulting in approximately **277,000 customers** across Latvia initially being left without electricity. **Thus, the majority of power supply has already been restored, but for 54,000 customers, the consequences of the storm are not yet over. In the most affected and forested areas, the return of electricity may take several more days.**
