The most serious problems with electricity supply persist in Ogre and the Ogre region, as well as in the Aizkraukle, Preili, Rezekne, Jekabpils, and Bauska regions. By 6 a.m. on Tuesday, electricity supply had been restored to approximately 250,000 customers — about 90% of all consumers who were left without electricity due to the storm. Around 700 damages to the distribution network have been eliminated. On Monday evening, electricity supply was restored in the city of Preili and to about half of the customers in the Preili region. Work is ongoing. Specialists are inspecting damaged lines and addressing the aftermath of the disaster. In many places, large trees have fallen on the wires, lines have been torn down, or power transmission poles have been broken. As noted by the company, the speed of restoring electricity supply depends on the number and complexity of the damages, as well as the area that needs to be inspected. More than 200 crews from Sadales tīkls are involved in eliminating the aftermath of the storm. The company has mobilized all available resources, and crews from the Estonian distribution system operator Elektrilevi have also arrived to assist. On Tuesday, inspections of the affected areas will continue with the help of drones, which allow for quicker identification of damage locations. It is worth noting that on Saturday, August 22, and during the night into Sunday, Latvia was hit by the strongest summer storm in decades. Wind speeds exceeded 30 meters per second in some areas. The disaster caused extensive damage to distribution and transmission networks. Initially, about 277,000 customers across the country were left without electricity. Due to damage to the power networks, there were also disruptions in communication in many places, gas stations became inaccessible, and some stores were unable to operate.
