On the morning of August 26, vacationers discovered an unmanned aerial vehicle on Kabakum Beach near Varna. Border Police and specialists from the Bulgarian Navy arrived at the scene. The area around the find was cordoned off for safety reasons, Novinite reports. The Bulgarian Ministry of Defense stated that no explosives were found in the drone. Navy specialists examined the device, which was about two meters long and approximately one and a half meters wide. After inspection, it was prepared for transport to the naval base in Varna for further study. At the same time, the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Varna reported another find. Parts of a second drone were discovered on Pasha Dere Beach. The debris has also been decided to be sent to specialists for examination. So far, neither the origin nor the model of the drone found at Kabakum has been officially established, nor the circumstances under which it ended up in the sea. It is also unknown whether the numerous finds of recent days are related and whether the discovered devices have the same origin and purpose. ### Drones Found One After Another The current cases are a continuation of a series of similar incidents on the Bulgarian coast. On August 22, the Bulgarian Navy received two reports at once. Debris from a drone was found on the coast between Albena and Kranevo, while another fragment of a drone was washed ashore in the Rakitnika area near Varna. In the first case, military specialists determined that it was a target drone. No explosives were found in it. On August 25, a specialized group from the Burgas naval base was sent to another drone spotted in the sea between Tsarevo and the village of Varvara. Later, the Ministry of Defense reported that it was an electric reconnaissance drone, which posed no danger. It was retrieved from the water and delivered to the naval base. Thus, within just a few days, several drones or their fragments have been discovered along the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria. According to some reports, around six drones or parts of unmanned devices may have been washed ashore on the northern section of the coast recently. ### They Could Have Been Brought by Wind and Waves Military specialists suggest that the sharp increase in the number of such finds is partly related to weather conditions. Strong northeast winds and rough seas may have been carrying drones and their debris to the Bulgarian coast. All this is happening against the backdrop of the ongoing war in Ukraine and the widespread use of unmanned systems in the Black Sea region. However, Bulgarian authorities have not yet officially linked the discovered devices to combat operations. Specialists continue to investigate the found devices to determine their origin, technical condition, and possible purpose. Meanwhile, the main question remains unanswered: where did the drones come from that have been washed ashore in Bulgaria one after another over the past few days.
