According to a survey by Compare the Market, 71% of the kingdom's population has already encountered attempts by seagulls to take their food, with some of these attempts ending successfully for the birds. Seagulls most frequently target portions of fish and chips (72%), followed by sandwiches (21%) and ice cream (20%). Compare the Market, along with Peter's Fish Factory café in Margate, introduced a "Seagull Guarantee," under which affected customers can replace their stolen dish for free. Due to seagulls, 76% of citizens in Britain have refrained from eating outdoors, and a third of them reported that they had to throw away or give food to the birds. Meanwhile, 43% of respondents hide their food to protect it from seagulls, and 31% try to eat it as quickly as possible. Approximately 69% of those affected reported that they had encountered such incidents more than once. Over 80% of respondents stated that they had personally seen birds attacking other people. It is reported that seagulls also steal drinks and children's toys.
