Sales department head Karlis Ozols reported that this year, buyers are purchasing fewer items, but opting for more expensive ones. Although the average cost of the entire basket has not changed significantly compared to last year, the price of one purchased school item in August averages 16 euros, compared to 8–12 euros a year earlier. Among the most sought-after categories in August are drawing supplies, school backpacks and sports bags, writing supplies, and pencil cases. On average, residents spend 36 euros on bags, 16 euros on pencil cases, 9 euros on drawing supplies, 19 euros on textbooks, and 7 euros on other writing supplies. According to Ozols, the highest purchasing activity in preparation for the new school year is observed in mid and late August. Over the past two weeks, the number of sold school items has increased by 91% compared to the previous two weeks - the end of July and the beginning of August. Traditionally, before the start of the school year, there is the highest demand for school bags and writing supplies. At the same time, interest in furniture for setting up a study space, laptops, and smartphones is also growing.
