Ukraine's Ambassador to Turkey Nariman Djelyal was summoned to the country's Foreign Ministry after two attacks on Turkey-related vessels in the Black Sea. This was reported on Saturday, August 29, by the ministry to the Turkish Anadolu agency and AFP. The attacks themselves occurred on Wednesday and Thursday of the same week, the Foreign Ministry added. "During the meeting, Turkey warned of the absolute necessity to ensure the safety of people, property, navigation, and the environment in the Black Sea," AFP reported the ministry's words. In a statement shared with journalists, the Foreign Ministry said that the Turkish container ship Lider Bordo Mavi was struck on Wednesday while off the Russian Black Sea coast. The next day, the vessel Lider Kocatepe, sent to tow the container ship, was also attacked. It is not specified whether there were casualties as a result of the attacks. Turkish media reported that the container ship was towed to the port of Samsun on Turkey's Black Sea coast. ## ## Turkey Proposed a Moratorium on Strikes Against Vessels in the Black Sea On August 8, Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan proposed that Russia and Ukraine agree to a moratorium on strikes against vessels in the Black Sea. At that time, Ankara reported that it had conveyed the proposal to both sides and was awaiting their response. According to Fidan, Turkey urged Moscow and Kyiv to create a mechanism that would allow for the cessation of attacks in the Black Sea. The minister noted that the Ukrainian side had previously made a similar request. He also stated that vessels owned by Turkish companies, as well as ships with Turkish owners or crew members from Turkey, were being targeted. That same week, the country's Foreign Ministry reported that crew members, including Turkish citizens, were injured as a result of drone strikes on two vessels owned by Turkish companies. On August 4, the Turkish Foreign Ministry called on all parties to the conflict to immediately take concrete measures to protect navigation in the Black Sea amid the increasing number of attacks in its waters.
