The Memory Garden features 54 polished spherical structures made of stainless steel in various sizes with reflective surfaces, freely arranged throughout the space. The entire area of the garden is bordered by green plantings. The garden is surrounded by an adjacent linear park that connects the memorial to the surrounding urban environment and creates a transition between silence and the rhythm of everyday life. The funding for the Memory Garden project amounted to nearly two million euros. The money was allocated from the budget of the Riga municipality. As reported, on November 21, 2013, in Zolitude, 54 people died as a result of the collapse of the Maxima shopping center, and several dozen others sustained serious injuries. Construction experts concluded that the tragedy occurred due to incorrect load calculations on the roof structures, which led to its collapse.
