The maximum air temperature recorded in the observation network of the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre the day before ranged from **+19.6 degrees in Pāvilosta to +26.1 degrees in Daugavpils**. The highest temperature in Europe on August 31 reached **+37…+40 degrees** in many areas of Southern Europe. The lowest temperature on the night of Tuesday — **−1…−2 degrees** — was recorded in Iceland, as well as in the mountainous regions of Scandinavia and the Alps.
