Anti-tank ditches will be dug and the necessary supporting infrastructure will be created in the Balvi, Alūksne, Ludza, Krāslava, and Augšdaugava regions to limit mobility, reports VNĪ. Approximately 27 kilometers of anti-tank ditches will be created along the eastern border, and "dragon teeth" will be installed as part of the works. The total investment in the first phase of the project amounts to €12,977,603 from the Ministry of Defense budget. The infrastructure will be developed gradually according to the work schedule until autumn 2027. Before the construction works began, representatives of VNĪ and the Ministry of Defense visited the involved municipalities - Alūksne, Balvi, Ludza, Krāslava, and Augšdaugava regions - to discuss the progress of the works and agree on cooperation. Special attention was paid to the condition of local roads, access to construction sites, and the preservation of drainage systems on agricultural lands.
