Residents of Kurzeme also included pork in their diet more frequently — 16.9 kg per person per year compared to 13.2 kg on average in the country. Only in Latgale was more pork consumed — 17 kg. **Kurzeme leads in egg consumption** Kurzeme stands out particularly in egg consumption. On average, there were almost 220 eggs per person per year, while the average in Latvia was about 192 eggs. Kurzeme also led in the consumption of smoked salmon — about 500 grams per person per year. In comparison, in Latgale this figure was 360 grams. **More strawberries, but fewer apples** Among fruits and berries, residents of Kurzeme were especially noted for their love of strawberries: their consumption reached 7.1 kg per person per year, which was more than double the average in Latvia — 3.5 kg. Blueberries were consumed in Kurzeme at 1.6 kg compared to 1.2 kg on average in the country. At the same time, fewer apples were eaten here — 10 kg per person per year compared to 11.2 kg on average in Latvia. Overall, household spending in Latvia last year averaged 619 euros per family member per month. About 24% of expenses were on food, 16% on housing and utilities, and 12% on transportation.
