The court changed the previously applied measure of restraint for Gushchin from detention to police supervision. As an additional measure of restraint, a travel ban has been imposed. Gushchin spent about nine months in detention. The request to change the measure of restraint to one not involving deprivation of liberty was submitted by the accused himself. Gushchin's lawyer, Imma Jansone, positively assessed the court's decision, emphasizing that given the age and health condition of the accused, he is not capable of fleeing the country. Prosecutor Kaspars Kikuts declined to comment. At the court hearing, Jansone emphasized that the only argument in favor of Gushchin's detention was the risk of evading justice - in particular, the possibility of his flight to Russia. She also confirmed that Gushchin did not deny his connection to Russia, but had not visited it since 2023. Jansone explained the necessity of changing the measure of restraint due to Gushchin's health issues - diagnosed diabetes - as well as the need to assist his 95-year-old mother. The prosecutor, in turn, expressed concerns that after the change of the measure of restraint, Gushchin might go to Russia, as he had previously expressed a desire to move there.
