Today, the chargé d'affaires of Russia in Latvia was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, fully supporting the government of Germany, handed him a note of protest condemning the direct involvement of the Russian Federation in the attempted drone attack at Leipzig Airport, Germany, on August 4, 2026. “The incident caused by the Russian Federation is not just another hybrid attack; it is an act of state terrorism by the Russian Federation on the territory of Germany and a direct threat to the security of all of Europe,” emphasized Foreign Minister Baiba Braže. Russia is deliberately trying to destabilize and divide Europe, testing our resilience, unity, and determination. In this way, Russia is attempting to weaken our support for Ukraine. This will not succeed. During the talks, a strict demand was made to the Russian Federation to immediately cease such and other hostile actions on the territory of EU and NATO countries and against the residents of these countries. The level of military threat in Latvia has not changed. At the same time, Russia's aggression in Ukraine and hybrid attacks on NATO allies are worsening the overall security situation across Europe. Latvia will continue to closely coordinate actions with EU and NATO member states to strengthen overall security and resilience,” the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated for the media.
