The book is created as a practical guide for people who want to abstain from alcohol for 30 days, assess their drinking habits, or take the first steps towards a sober life. The foundation of the book is based on the experience of the authors who created the movement and challenge '30 Days of Sobriety,' which has now involved over 130 participants. The authors of the book are addiction consultant, certified supervisor, and creator of the project '1000 Days of Sobriety' Agris Starts, as well as event host, television presenter, and musician Ansis Klintsons. Each of the 30 days without alcohol in the guide is dedicated to a separate topic, conclusion, and practical task. The authors address habits, emotions, social pressure, relationships, self-esteem, and the 'ability to build a life where alcohol is no longer needed.' 'Our goal is not to tell a person: you have a problem. It is much more important to help them stop and honestly ask themselves: what does alcohol give me in life and what does it take away from me?' says Starts. According to him, 30 days is 'a short enough time to decide to try, and long enough to start noticing the difference.' The authors note that the book is being released at a time when alcohol consumption in Latvia remains one of the highest among the countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). In turn, according to the World Health Organization, alcohol consumption is associated with more than 200 diseases and health disorders. The authors emphasize that they do not want to deprive people of celebrations, friends, or the joy of life. 'We suggest checking how all of this can be experienced more clearly, fully, and without the hangover the next day,' says Klintsons. Simultaneously with the release of the book, the sixth challenge '30 Days of Sobriety' starts today. Participants will have access to daily materials and practical tasks, online meetings with the authors of the book, as well as mutual support. The book can be purchased on the project’s website, where registration for participation in the challenge is also available.
