According to Straujinš, increasing the share of such enterprises in the structure of Latvian industry can accelerate production growth in the coming years. The opportunities for creating new products here are significantly broader. One of the most notable examples is the rapidly developing production of drones. In addition, Latvian companies produce equipment for the food industry, woodworking, and metalworking. An additional stimulus could come from increased defense spending and the global boom in data center construction. Expanding production capacities in the Baltic countries and increasing the number of components produced in the region could create additional opportunities for Latvian enterprises. However, to realize this potential, Straujinš believes it is necessary to engage young people in engineering professions and ensure the training of skilled workers. The government and local authorities should also work more actively with potential investors.
