Sam Hawk is a certified professional trainer and a popular TikTok blogger. In an interview with The Sun, he warns future dog owners: dogs can behave strangely if their needs are not met. Here’s what to pay attention to! Dogs Need Work “If you are a family, you should avoid stronger working breed dogs,” says the trainer who has trained Lady Gaga's dogs. He explains that breeds like German Shepherds and Malinois were bred to perform specific tasks. Therefore, choosing them solely for their cute appearance and leaving them at home while everyone works or studies is a bad option for the animal. A lack of activity can negatively affect such dogs. Disobedience Is a Sign of Boredom If puppies are not stimulated with activities that utilize their skills, they will find a way to expend their energy. This often leads to disobedience or even uncontrollable behavior. “They sit at home, build up energy, and think: 'I need to do something because I’m bored,'” says Hawk. “And then they start chewing furniture, barking at everything that moves, and chasing kids.” Although working dogs require more attention, Hawk explains that they can become great companions for those who are willing to engage with them. Hawk advises people with primary responsibilities, such as children or heavy work, to choose low-energy animals that require less training. Challenging Dog Breeds: A Veterinarian’s Opinion Another TikTok star, Dr. Whitney Terrell, shared her thoughts on dog breeds she would not consider getting. Her verdict is based on veterinary experience and personal preferences, so this list should be taken with caution but noted. Chinese Crested and Other Hairless Breeds The first breed Whitney would not get is the Chinese Crested. The veterinarian admits she does not like hairless dogs. “They often have skin and subcutaneous fat issues. When you pick them up, they feel like a bag full of eggs!” she says. Chihuahuas The doctor claims that in her years of practice, she has only met a few nice Chihuahuas. Mostly, they are aggressive and noisy animals that may bite people on the ankles. Brachycephalic Breeds (Pugs, Shih Tzus, Boston Terriers, etc.) “Due to their anatomy, they have difficulty breathing and snore,” Whitney says. She adds that these breeds often suffer from dermatitis, have multiple allergies, and are prone to flatulence. German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois These dogs have the potential to be great pets, but Whitney reminds that they require a lot of attention and training. She adds that “95% of dogs of these breeds can be aggressive if not trained properly.” If you plan to get one of these dogs, she advises not to make the decision lightly and to be sure that you have enough time for their care. Doodles In Whitney's experience, these dogs are hyperactive and cannot sit still. It is also important to note that this breed can have regular ear infections, and their care can be costly.
