Meanwhile, the Brandenburg police reported that the investigation is also looking into a possible terrorist motive. ## Shot homemade rockets at power lines Last week, a series of sabotage incidents and attempted attacks on power grids occurred in Germany. Daniel V. is suspected of attempting to use homemade rockets to throw thin wire across high-voltage lines in North Rhine-Westphalia, Brandenburg, and Saxony to cause short circuits. It is believed that this method worked at least twice. In Bergheim, west of Cologne, part of an energy facility remained out of operation for several days after a short circuit. In Brandenburg, two short circuits occurred at the Turnow-Priela substation near the Janšvalde power station. However, none of these incidents led to a large-scale power outage. ## Explosives found in the house During a search of the suspect's residence in North Rhine-Westphalia, police discovered **explosive substances**. Additionally, last Thursday, three ignition devices were found near a transformer station between Cologne and Düsseldorf. Law enforcement agencies tracked down Daniel V. after German media received two letters in which the man allegedly claimed responsibility for the attacks. He chose federal states where lignite is still mined as targets. In one of the letters, the production of electricity from fossil fuels was described as "a crime causing indescribable suffering." ## The next target could have been the Netherlands Particular concern arises from information in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that the suspect's alleged plans were not limited to Germany. According to the publication, among the possible targets was the Dutch city of Doetinchem. A series of unusual attacks has demonstrated how vulnerable energy infrastructure can be even to the actions of one person with relatively simple means. Now the investigation must establish the full scale of Daniel V.'s plans and determine whether he indeed intended to carry out sabotage beyond Germany.
