Paintings worth 9 million euros were stolen from the Pierre-Auguste Renoir Museum. The incident occurred in the town of Cagnes-sur-Mer in southeastern France, Deutsche Welle reports. The alarm went off at 5:48 AM on September 8, said the town's mayor, Brian Masson. According to TF1, the thieves cut the paintings out of their frames. The criminals noticed they were caught on surveillance cameras and decided to flee, dropping one of the stolen paintings along the way. Authorities have not yet clarified which specific works were taken. It remains unclear whether the stolen pieces are by Renoir himself or other painters. The damage is estimated at 9 million euros. The museum was opened in 1960 in the villa where Renoir spent his last years. The collection includes works by other artists as well, including Aristide Maillol, Pierre Bonnard, and Raoul Dufy.
