By 15:00 on Wednesday, three new temperature records for September 9 were recorded in Latvia. This is evidenced by data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre. With air temperatures around +26 degrees, daily records were updated in Mersrags, Priekuli, and Ruijiena. In Jelgava, the air warmed up to +27.3 degrees, which allowed it to match the previous record for this day. These are the first temperature records registered in the country since July 31. A total of 156 heat records have already been broken in Latvia since the beginning of the year, with 123 of them occurring in March. At the same time, 19 cold records were recorded in February. Although the day turned out to be very warm, it did not reach the absolute record for September 9. The national maximum for this date is +28.7 degrees, set in Bauska in 2019. The contrast with the weather will be particularly noticeable the very next day. After almost summer-like warmth, cooler air will arrive in the country. According to meteorologists' forecasts, on Thursday, daytime temperatures will only reach +12 to +18 degrees. Rain is expected in many areas, with thunderstorms possible in places, as well as an increase in wind. Thus, the record warm September 9 will end with a sharp change in weather that will bring more typical early autumn conditions back to Latvia.
