The parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Ivars Abolins, commented on the fate of the Society Integration Foundation in an interview with Latvian TV. "The Society Integration Foundation (SIF), in its current form, should be liquidated. Only 10% of those who speak Russian are ready to defend Latvia, and only 18% are generally on Ukraine's side. The rest either support Russia, are neutral, or cannot answer. Thus, this foundation no longer conducts any integration of society and has exhausted itself. Support for the Russian language through the SIF must also be stopped. For example, funding for Russian-language newspapers should be discontinued. After all, this is how we raise generations that, during debates on Latvian TV, cannot answer the question of who owns Crimea and what Russia's role is in creating a threat to Latvia," said I. Abolins. Later, on social media, the politician clarified that the Foundation could be liquidated starting January 2027. However, in reality, the Ministry of Culture has proposed a different initiative - not liquidation, but reorganization with a gradual transfer of the functions of implementing certain projects (mainly funded by European money) to non-governmental organizations.
