Foreign Minister Baiba Braže noted that the authorities' thoughts are primarily with the relatives of the missing residents of Latvia in Nepal. According to her, the hardest part for the families is the lack of information about the fate of their loved ones, compounded by the need to address various practical issues. The police have declared the missing Latvian travelers as missing persons. They cannot yet be declared deceased, as the search and rescue operation in Nepal is ongoing. Commenting on the arrival of a new group of tourists from Latvia, who plan to continue their journey to Tibet, Braže emphasized that the Constitution guarantees Latvian citizens the right to leave the country, and the authorities cannot prohibit their travel. At the same time, the minister urged travelers heading to Nepal to at least register in the consular register.
