The advisor to the Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, was near the site of the Russian strike close to Poland. At night, Russia attacked the railway near the checkpoint "Yahodin" on the Ukrainian-Polish border. A passenger train locomotive, which was making a regular trip from Kyiv to Warsaw, was hit. According to Der Spiegel, at that moment a special train approached the border, carrying the closest advisor to the Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, Günter Sautter, as well as security advisors from other European countries and former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson. No passengers from either train were injured. Passengers were evacuated. Shortly after that, the air raid alert was lifted as no other drones were detected, Deutsche Welle reports. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated after the attack that Russian troops had demonstratively burned the locomotive of the passenger train. According to Latvian TV, the Minister of Justice of Latvia, Edwards Smilten, was also on the special train.
