The playground will complement the existing areas for rest and active recreation for children and adolescents on the hospital grounds. The hospital notes that the opportunity to relax and move outdoors is especially important for patients who spend extended periods in the medical facility. At the beginning of the project development, hospital staff listened to the ideas of patients and their thoughts on what kind of environment they would enjoy spending time in. The central theme of the new playground is insects. It features images of a grasshopper, ladybug, and other insects. At educational stations, children will be able to learn more about the inhabitants of gardens and forests. Part of the park was updated as part of the international SchoolChanger project with the support of the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme 2021–2027. The project's goal is to help municipalities and public institutions in the Baltic region develop nature-oriented, child and youth-focused, and socially responsible solutions. The total budget for the project is 200,000 euros. Of this, 80% is project funding, while the remaining 20% is co-financing from the Children's Hospital. The project is planned to be implemented by February 2028. The opening of the new playground will take place on September 16 at 14:00.
