On Monday, construction work begins in Mangalsala to update the water supply and sewage infrastructure. The project will allow the southern part of the neighborhood to connect to the centralized networks of the company "Rīgas ūdens". The first phase will take place from the side of Vecdaugava — on Laivinieku Street near the intersection with Atlantijas Street. Complete road closures are not planned; however, drivers should be aware that temporary narrowing of the road may occur in certain areas. In the initial phase, builders will lay 950 meters of pressurized sewage pipeline and 450 meters of water supply pipeline. Some of the communications will be installed using a trenchless method, which will reduce the volume of earthworks and minimize inconvenience for residents. One of the most challenging parts of the project will be the construction of a crossing under the Audupe River, which will connect the engineering networks between Laivinieku Street and Mangalsala. For local residents, this means that significant traffic restrictions are not expected in the near future. More extensive work on the central streets of the neighborhood will begin later, and authorities promise to inform in advance about changes to the traffic scheme. The next phase will start in November — work will continue on the section from Audupe to the pumping station on Albatrosu Street. Meanwhile, reconstruction on Traleru, Albatrosu, Veiksmess, Stavvadu Streets, and Mangalsala Avenue is planned only for spring 2027. In total, the project includes the construction of nearly three kilometers of pressurized sewage, 4.6 kilometers of gravity sewage network, three new pumping stations, and almost 6.8 kilometers of water supply networks. The total cost of the project is 5.6 million euros. The work is being carried out by the company Tilts, and funding is provided from the dividends that "Rīgas ūdens" transfers to the Riga municipality. If the work proceeds on schedule, the reconstruction will be completed in the autumn of 2028. After that, the part of Mangalsala that has not yet been connected to the centralized networks will receive a modern water supply and sewage system.
