According to the law on the remuneration of officials and employees of state and municipal institutions, a member of the Cabinet of Ministers may receive a severance payment equal to one month's salary upon completion of their official duties. The payment is made within a month from the date of termination of the official's duties, unless the official is a member of the Saeima at the time of losing their position, has not been confirmed as a member of the Cabinet of Ministers within a month from the termination of duties, has not been appointed as a parliamentary secretary, or has not entered the Saeima, and also does not continue to perform the duties of a presidential advisor, advisory official, or employee of a Cabinet member after dismissal and does not commence such duties within a month from the date of termination of official duties. Uzulnieks was previously not a member of the Saeima, so he has no mandate that could be restored. Compensation for unused annual leave days is also paid, if applicable. As reported, on Saturday, Uzulnieks was stopped while driving under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration of 3.09 promille. The State Police have initiated a criminal process regarding the incident. In light of the incident, the Union of Greens and Farmers (Saeima) has recalled Uzulnieks from the position of minister and has also committed to expelling him from the party.
