As VID reminds, this option is primarily suitable for those who **do not need to declare justified expenses** and attach supporting documents to the annual declaration. If the application is submitted on time, the overpayment for the previous year will be transferred to the specified bank account **between October 1 and December 31, 2026**. ### Who Can Get Money Back Automatically The automatic refund is calculated solely based on the information already available to VID. One can receive an overpayment in this way, for example, if during the year, when calculating salary or pension, not all eligible tax benefits were applied to the person. This may refer to benefits for dependents, for low-income individuals, persons with disabilities, politically repressed individuals, and participants in the national resistance movement. An automatic refund is also possible if in the previous year the person made contributions to a **private pension fund or life insurance**, provided that the relevant pension fund or insurance company is registered in Latvia. ### When You Will Still Have to Submit a Declaration The simplified procedure does not apply to expenses for which VID has no information. If a person wants to get a part of the tax back for **medical services, dentistry, education, children's clubs, or donations**, it is necessary to submit an annual income declaration and attach documents confirming these expenses. ### How to Submit an Application The easiest way to do this is through the electronic declaration system **EDS**. After logging in, you need to sequentially select: "Izveidot jaunu dokumentu" → "Iedzīvotāju ienākuma nodokļa dokumenti" → "Iesniegums automātiskai nodokļa atmaksas saņemšanai, neiesniedzot gada ienākumu deklarāciju". There are two weeks left until the deadline. Those who **do not intend to submit an annual declaration but may have a tax overpayment** should check the situation and, if necessary, submit an application to VID by September 30. In this case, if there is an overpayment, the money will be automatically credited to the bank account by the end of the year.
