The club presented the unusual stroll as one of the iconic stops during their trip to Tokyo. The reaction was mixed. Some commentators perceived the event as a fun and eye-catching way to draw attention to water polo. Others questioned the appropriateness of nearly naked athletes appearing in a public place and criticized the excessive "theatricalization" of the sport. At the same time, passersby directly at Shibuya, judging by the published footage, mostly reacted with curiosity: many filmed the unusual procession on their phones. ### Why the Water Polo Players Came to Japan Pro Recco is on a major Asian tour taking place from September 8 to 18, covering China and Japan. Its goal is to promote the club and popularize water polo in Asia. On September 13, the Italians played a friendly match against the Japanese national team in Tiba and won with a score of 16:11. The next day, the team trained together with water polo players from Keio University in Yokohama. Pro Recco is one of the most famous and decorated water polo clubs in the world. The team from the small Ligurian town of Recco has repeatedly become the champion of Italy and holds the record for the main European club tournament. Last year, Pro Recco conducted a similar international tour in the USA, visiting New York and Princeton. Now the club decided to attract attention in Asia — and the stroll of nearly naked water polo players through Shibuya, judging by the international reaction, accomplished this task. It turned out to be a rare case where an ordinary street crossing brought water polo almost more attention than the result of the match against the Japanese national team.
