At the World Road Running Championships in Copenhagen, Arturs Niklavs Medved achieved the best result in Latvia's history in the 5-kilometer distance. The Latvian athlete completed the distance in 13 minutes and 30 seconds, improving his own national record by 10 seconds. This result allowed Medved to secure 19th place among 51 participants. Among European athletes, the Latvian showed the seventh best result, confirming his high level against the world's top runners. The world champion was Eritrean athlete Dawit Seyaum, who set a national record for his country at 12 minutes and 56 seconds. The silver medal was won by Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who finished three seconds behind the winner, while another Eritrean, Simon Emanuel, took the bronze, finishing just one second later. For Latvian athletics, Medved's new record is one of the most notable results in recent years in road distances. Improving one's own national achievement by ten seconds at such a prestigious tournament is a rare feat. Latvian athletes also competed in other distances at the world championship. In the mile race, Robert Alexis Glazer finished 45th with a time of 4:10.1, while Nikita Bogdanov finished 54th out of 58 participants with a time of 4:20.28. In the women's mile, Liga Velvere-Krumina recorded a time of 5:28.35, placing 46th among 48 athletes. On Sunday, the world championship program will conclude with the half marathon, where the last sets of medals will be contested. It is worth noting that the first World Road Running Championship took place in 2023 in Riga.
