Rain clouds from the southeast will reach Latgale, and on Wednesday, precipitation is expected in most parts of the country. The air temperature will range from +12 to +17 degrees. A more powerful cyclone, according to preliminary forecasts, will arrive on Thursday and will determine the weather until Saturday. In some areas, it may bring very heavy precipitation, with amounts approaching the monthly norm. Intense rains are forecasted over a vast territory of the country. In certain regions, flooding of low-lying areas is possible. As heavy precipitation is expected throughout the Daugava basin, meteorologists predict a noticeable increase in water inflow to the hydroelectric power stations at the end of September and the beginning of October. The cyclone will also bring gusty winds. During the rains, even during the day, the air temperature in some areas may drop to about +10 degrees. However, frosts are not expected this week. According to current forecasts, an anticyclone will influence the weather in the last days of September and the beginning of October. On the sunniest and warmest days, the air temperature may slightly exceed +20 degrees, corresponding to the period of Indian summer. According to the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, this week, the amount of precipitation in Latvia, especially in Latgale, will significantly exceed the climatic norm. In the following four weeks, precipitation is expected to be less than usual or around the norm, while the air temperature over the next three weeks is forecasted to be above the average long-term values for this time of year.
