For the 2026/2027 flu season, the government plans to purchase **148,336 doses of vaccine** — 9,216 doses, or 6.6%, more than were purchased in the previous season. **2.483 million euros excluding VAT** has been allocated for the purchase, the NVD reported to the LETA agency. In comparison, last season, 133,120 doses were initially purchased. Later, an additional 6,000 doses were acquired for nearly 20,000 euros. Thus, the total amount reached 139,120 doses. ### Which vaccines will be purchased As a result of the tender for the 2026/2027 season, it is planned to purchase: * 70,900 doses of flu vaccine; * 74,716 doses intended for people aged 60 and over; * 2,720 doses of intranasal vaccine for children under two years old. If necessary, during the season, the government will be able to purchase additional batches — provided that funding allows, there is no shortage in the European market, and suppliers can ensure timely delivery. ### Possible delays NVD warns that there may be delays in the delivery of certain seasonal flu vaccines in EU countries during the 2026/2027 season. This is related to issues in the global supply chain. Vaccines are produced specifically for a given season, taking into account the current subtypes of the flu virus. The production volume is limited, and the shelf life of the products is relatively short. For example, the shelf life of the intranasal vaccine is only 18 weeks from the date of production.
