In an interview with RMF FM, Wrzontek specified that the permanent base is expected to accommodate between 4,000 and 5,000 American servicemen, while another 10,000 to 11,000 will be in Poland on a rotational basis. According to him, around 15,000 is the most realistic target number. Currently, there are approximately 6,500 to 7,000 American servicemen in Poland, the deputy minister reported. ### The Base Will Cost Billions The necessary infrastructure is expected to be developed in stages. The speed of construction will depend, among other factors, on the international situation and the level of threats. Wrzontek suggested that reaching the planned number of American troops could happen before 2039, but emphasized that it will not occur in the current decade. The preparation of the permanent base will cost more than 15 billion zlotys — about 3.5 to 4 billion euros. A special law will be required to implement the project, as well as cooperation with local authorities. The exact location of the base has not yet been announced. Wrzontek stated that it concerns the western part of Poland: among the arguments are logistics and the lower vulnerability of the site. ### A Decision May Be Close On September 17, U.S. President Donald Trump announced "significant progress" regarding the establishment of a permanent U.S. Army base in Poland. According to him, if a final decision is made, the location may be announced soon. At the same time, the U.S. is reviewing the structure of its military presence in Europe. Polish media report a possible reduction of some forces in Germany, Italy, and Spain; decisions within this review may also affect the deployment of American units on NATO's eastern flank.
