The current warning corresponds to the level of potential threat used by the National Armed Forces (NAF), which advises citizens to be prepared and to monitor official information. So far, the NAF has not reported what specific object caused the declaration of a possible threat and whether a drone has been detected directly in Latvian airspace. Similar warnings have been issued in Latvia before. In the spring of 2026, several incidents were related to drones approaching the Latvian border or entering the country's airspace. In particular, on May 7, the NAF reported two foreign drones that flew in from Russia and crashed on Latvian territory. In May, warnings were repeatedly issued in Latgale and other regions. In one case, a drone entered Latvian airspace in the Kraslava region and then exited through the Ludza region. The NAF and NATO allies continue to monitor the airspace.
